In recent times, microneedling has attracted the attention of those looking for a solution to take care of the appearance of the body’s skin and, especially, the face. The procedure can be applied to different types of problems, but one that has attracted the most attention is the treatment of acne scars. In order to better understand how microneedling works in this case, DermaClub talked to doctor Lilia Guadanhim, from São Paulo, who clarified all doubts on the subject. Check out!
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is an aesthetic treatment that serves to remove acne scars , disguise spots, wrinkles or expression lines of the skin, through a natural stimulation made with micro-needles that penetrate the dermis favoring the formation of new collagen fibers, which give firmness and support to the skin.
According to the doctor, “the device used for the treatment can be a roller or a specific pen, with needles of varying length and number according to each case”. The professional also warns that only specialist doctors, dermatologists or plastic surgeons should perform microneedling. “I usually make an analogy between the needle roller and a brush. It is just an instrument, the result depends on the skill and training of the “artist”, and it can be a masterpiece or a real catastrophe “.

How does microneedling work to treat acne scars?
To take care of acne scars , the procedure can be performed in the office, with anesthetic cream or injectable and with variable pressure. It is important to remember that the degree of discomfort varies according to the patient, the device used, the anesthetic choice and the intensity of the injury. As well as discomfort, the recovery time is also variable: “In most cases, the person does not need to be away from their daily activities, but eventually it takes a week for the skin to return to normal,” he explained.
What skin care should we take after the procedure?
After microneedling, the skin needs special care for some time. “The main pillars are sun protection and hydration, in addition to a mild sanitizer,” said the doctor. In addition, whitening creams prescribed by the dermatologist can be used in the pre and post procedure to prevent skin blemishes. It is important to choose a sunscreen with a broad spectrum and suitable for sensitive skin and oily skin, as well as a moisturizer with vitamin B3 , which has prebiotic action ,,,, in addition, thermal water is excellent to relieve post-procedure discomfort.
Is the result definitive?
Fortunately, the result is permanent. “Since the trauma of the needles stimulates the production of collagen by the patient himself, the scars become more superficial, narrower and the pores more closed”, he concluded. However, it is worth remembering that, for more expressive results, 3 to 5 sessions are necessary, depending on the case.
